I Stand With Derek Sloan
On January 20th, MP Derek Sloan was kicked out of the Conservative caucus. He will no longer be allowed to run as a Conservative Party member in future elections and will now sit as an Independent MP. This happened after Erin O’Toole initiated a caucus vote which resulted in a majority of Conservative MPs voting to remove him from the caucus.
O’Toole claimed at first that he was initiating the vote to eject Sloan because Sloan accepted a $131 donation from white nationalist Paul Fromm during his campaign for the 2020 Conservative Party leadership race. Many immediately accused Erin O’Toole of creating a dishonest narrative because the Conservative Party had also accepted a cut from Fromm’s donation. Additionally, Paul Fromm had donated under his full name, ‘Frederick P. Fromm’, so even if Sloan should have recognized the name of a “well-known white supremacist” Fromm was donating under a name that most wouldn’t recognize as his. In later statements, O’Toole claimed that it was due to a “pattern of destructive behaviour” over the past year that caused him to initiate the caucus vote to remove Sloan.
Derek Sloan is one of the most outspoken and honest social conservative MPs in Canada. He’s spoken out unequivocally against abortion, euthanasia, attacks on religious freedom and many other vital issues to conservatives and faithful Christians, many of whom see him as their voice on Parliament Hill.
The message Erin O’Toole is sending here is disturbing. O’Toole has always claimed to want the Conservative Party to be a big tent party that values a diversity of opinions among MPs, but now it seems that the party isn’t big enough for you if you agree with too much of what Derek Sloan says. It’s additionally disturbing to know that a majority of Conservative MPs agree with O’Toole on it.
At the moment, we cannot see who voted to eject Derek Sloan from the caucus because the votes were private. Though there may be a role for private meetings and confidential votes in party politics, how one’s MP voted here shows whether or not they can represent social conservatives and whether they’re capable of tolerating an ideologically diverse party. For this reason, the vote should have been transparent, and conservatives across Canada have a right to know whether their MP voted to eject Derek Sloan.
Sign this petition to demand that Erin O’Toole immediately bring back Derek Sloan into the Conservative caucus. Additionally, we are demanding that he release the names of the MPs who voted for and against Derek Sloan’s removal publicly so that conservative Canadians can know which MPs support cancelling their fellow MPs for their beliefs.

Bring back Derek Sloan
To the Hon. Erin O'Toole,
I am writing to you in response to the Conservative Party’s decision to eject MP Derek Sloan from the Conservative caucus. I oppose the decision that you and the majority of Conservative MPs made to remove Sloan from the caucus.
Derek Sloan is an honest and outspoken social conservative politician. Many Conservative supporters see Sloan as their voice on Parliament Hill. I do not believe your initial claim that this decision was made over the donation Sloan received from Paul Fromm, for the Conservative Party accepted a cut from that donation as well. The real motivation behind your Party kicking out Sloan was because you do not think people who agree with too many of Sloan’s views should be allowed in the Conservative party.
I am against Conservative politicians being punished for speaking out on issues related to life, family, and freedom. I ask that you rectify this poor decision by:
- Immediately bringing back Derek Sloan into the Conservative caucus
- Releasing the names of the MPs who voted for and against Derek Sloan’s removal publicly so that conservative Canadians can know which MPs support cancelling their fellow MPs for their beliefs.
All MPs who voted to eject Derek Sloan have demonstrated both an inability to honestly represent social conservatives and an incapability to tolerate an ideologically diverse party. It is important that this decision is undone and that Conservative voters are told which MPs support cancelling their fellow MPs for their beliefs.
