Sign this petition to oppose Senator Biodun Olujimi’s Gender and Equal Opportunities Bill, which is currently pending in the Nigerian Senate.

Section 12 (c) of Olujimi’s Bill seeks to legalize abortion in Nigeria, contrary to the religious, cultural and philosophical convictions of the Nigerian people. Section 7 promotes homosexual practices and same-sex “marriage,” in violation of the Same Sex (Marriage) Prohibition Act of 2014. These sections - among others that euphemistically refer to abortion and sexual orientation - should be expunged from the bill.

This bill originated in 2010. All previous attempts to present it in Senate have rightly failed. No matter how many times her bill is soundly defeated, Senator Abiodun Olujimi refuses to give up. She re-presented the bill during the 8th Senate, and it was already defeated once. However, the Senate President has asked Senator Olujimi to present it again!

We stand vehemently opposed to this bill, because it contains provisions endorsing abortion and homosexual practices. Please sign this petition to ask that the Senate stand firm and strike out this bill again.

The Bill seeks to incorporate and enforce provisions of the African Charter on the Rights of Women, otherwise called the Maputo Protocol, and the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) both of which endorse abortion in violation of the laws of Nigeria and the wishes of the Nigerian people.

When you sign this petition, a note will be sent directly to Nigeria’s Senate President and the Deputy Senate President asking them to strike out this bill.

Reject Gender and Equal Opportunities Bill

Dear Senate President Bukola Saraki and Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu,

I urge you to reject Senator Biodun Olujimi’s Gender and Equal Opportunities Bill, which is currently pending in the Nigerian Senate.

Section 12 (c) of the Bill clearly endorses the legalization of abortion in Nigeria. The Bill seeks to incorporate and enforce provisions of the African Charter on the Rights of Women (otherwise called the MAPUTO PROTOCOL) and the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), both of which endorse abortion, in violation of the laws of Nigeria and the wishes of the Nigerian people.

Section 7 of the Bill also promotes homosexual practices and same-sex “marriage,” in violation of the Same Sex (Marriage) Prohibition Act of 2014.

Please vote according to the wishes of the Nigerian people and reject this dangerous bill.
