Petition to: The Rt Hon Rishi Sunak, Prime Minister
No Right-To-Kill: Stop Reckless Abortion Amendment
No Right-To-Kill: Stop Reckless Abortion Amendment
Update: 26 February 2024
Recent media reports suggest MPs WILL be given a free vote on Labour MP Diana Johnson's abortion up to birth amendment and that it will have the support of the current Health Secretary, Victoria Atkins, and former Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt.
The Mail on Sunday has named conservative MPs Miriam Cates and Nick Fletcher among rebel MPs willing to vote against the Government's Criminal Justice Bill if it includes Johnson's amendment.
Now, we have some political opposition, it is the perfect time to amplify our collective voice and make it known the public stand with Miriam and Nick in opposing Johnson's evil amendment.
Please sign and share the petition. We hope to deliver it to the Prime Minister soon!
Update: 8 February 2024
Labour MP Dame Diana Johnson has again hijacked the Government’s Criminal Justice Bill with an extreme abortion up-to-birth amendment.
Like her previous amendment, Johnson’s new amendment would result in women being able to abort their babies for any reason right up to the point of birth – a devastating 'right-to-kill.' The proposed change in law would also lead to an increase in women being hospitalised, suffering complications as a result of a late-term DIY abortion.
The extreme amendment could go to a vote as soon as March when it is likely the Criminal Justice Bill’s Report Stage will commence.
Please sign and share the petition over the next couple of weeks so we can let the Prime Minister know the strength of feeling against this evil amendment.
Update: 26 January 2024
Following a pro-life demonstration in North London, two reckless amendments to the Criminal Justice Bill, which would have allowed for abortions right up to the point of birth, have been withdrawn.
The efforts of Stella Creasy and Dame Diana Johnson to decriminalise abortion had largely gone unnoticed by many.
Your efforts and those of our allies have helped showcase just how awful these amendments are and have even irked Ms Creasy, who publicly expressed her dismay at our protest, stating her wish to shut it down.
While it is a joy to share these positive developments, this battle is likely far from over.
Sadly, it is likely the amendments will be re-tabled at the Criminal Justice Bill's Report Stage.
Please join us in signing and sharing the petition so we can demonstrate to the government there is robust opposition to permitting abortion up to the point of birth.
Original explainer text: 15 January 2024
The UK already has one of the most extreme abortion laws in the world, resulting in well over 200,000 abortions per year.
Tragically, it could get even worse!
Pro-abortion Labour MPs Stella Creasy and Dame Diana Johnson have tabled two extreme amendments to the Government’s Criminal Justice Bill that would allow abortions to take place for any reason, right up to the point of birth – even for sex-selective abortions.
Amendment NC1, proposed by Dame Diana Johnson MP, removes all criminal sanctions for a woman who has an abortion, no matter at what stage of pregnancy or at what danger to herself or her unborn child.
Amendment NC2, proposed by Stella Creasy MP, would go even further by repealing Section 60 of the Offences Against the Persons Act, which makes it illegal to hide the body of a dead newborn baby. Section 60 is important in stopping individuals from preventing an investigation into the cause of a baby’s death when infanticide is suspected.
If these extreme amendments become law, women would have a 'right-to-kill' their unborn babies, leading to a devastating increase in the number of babies’ lives being ended through late-term abortions.
Sign our petition now – no one should have a right-to-kill! Call on the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, to ensure these extreme abortion amendments don't even make it to a vote.
The proposed amendments not only disregard the lives of unborn babies but also disregard public opinion.
A poll of over 2,000 British adults showed only 1% of women want the abortion time limit extended to birth. 70% of women actually want a reduction in the current 24-week limit, and a huge 91% want to see sex-selective abortion explicitly banned.
The Government won't want to force through such unpopular amendments, especially not in an election year. They can't afford to lose votes and seats. By demonstrating strong public opposition, we can influence the government's decision.
If you stand with the majority of women, sign our petition to Rishi asking him to ensure these amendments do not become law.
These amendments are not a distant threat and could be voted on in a matter of weeks.
If we fail, the consequences are dire: increased abortions and more women harmed by DIY at-home abortions.
But if we succeed, we maintain the current protections for babies and pregnant women. We might even encourage more pro-life legislation.
We need you now. Sign our petition and tell the Prime Minister to stand against these dangerous amendments.
