Transgender guidance for schools MUST become law
The safety and well-being of children is continuously under attack due to the widespread and damaging transgender ideology that has infiltrated our schools.
For too long, children have been ‘taught’ that there are more than two genders or that they may have been born in the wrong body, influenced by groups such as Educate and Celebrate, Just Like Us, Mermaids, and Stonewall.
However, we now stand at a critical juncture, with a real opportunity to challenge and potentially eliminate transgender ideology from UK schools.
The Department for Education has recently issued new guidance for schools on managing cases of pupils wishing to identify as the opposite gender. The long-awaited guidance, which is open for public consultation until 12 March 2024, marks a significant shift away from trans-affirming ideologies.
It clarifies that schools are not required to allow children to ‘socially transition’ and offers protection for single-sex spaces and girls' sports.
While this is a commendable step forward, it is not sufficient.
Despite this progress, the UK's largest teaching unions, including the National Education Union and NASUWT, have advised teachers to disregard this guidance, maintaining their pro-trans policies on the grounds that the guidance is non-statutory.
Tragically, the resistance of the teaching unions highlights a stark reality:
Without legal enforcement, these guidelines are just words on paper – mere suggestions with little power to change anything.
Legal change is needed to make sure schools comply and protect children from the harms of transgender ideology.
Please sign our petition to the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, and the Education Secretary, Gillian Keegan, demanding they make key elements of the transgender guidance for schools law.
Evidence that the guidance is currently just words on paper can be seen in the case of Kevin Lister.
Kevin was a teacher with over 20 years of experience until he was abruptly escorted off the premises of Swindon New College and later sacked for ‘misgendering’ a 17-year-old female pupil who identified as a boy.
Despite there being no law recognising ‘gender transition’ for those in the UK under 18, Kevin lost what he described as “the best job in the world” on the very same day the government published its transgender guidance for schools.
The tragic thing is, we’ll continue losing good teachers like Kevin, Hannah*, Joshua Sutcliffe, and many others unless key elements of the transgender guidance for schools become law.
Kevin was correct when he told the Mail “we need legally binding rules to banish this extremist ideology from the classroom once and for all.”
Help us ban insidious transgender ideology from schools! Sign our petition to the Prime Minister and the Education Secretary urging them to protect children, parents, and teachers.
It has taken an awfully long time just to get non-statutory guidance on this matter.
Supported by the Christian Legal Centre and encouraged by CitizenGO supporters, Nigel and Sally Rowe fought in the courts for five years before securing a commitment from the UK government to reform transgender policies in schools. It took more than a year after that for the guidance to then be published.
However, there is hope we can achieve positive change and see key elements of the guidance become law soon.
The government is currently consulting on the transgender guidance and could be open to making it far more robust by making key elements of it law – there has been a significantly negative reaction within the party to the guidance not being legally binding and a positive law change would set the UK apart from the Labour Party ahead of the general election later this year.
The time to act is now. The more signatures we gather, the stronger our message to the Prime Minister and the Education Secretary will be.
If we succeed, key elements of the guidance will become law, and social transition could even become illegal. This would protect children, parents, and teachers.
If we fail, the guidance will remain non-statutory, meaning it can be completely ignored. Teachers will continue to lose their jobs for protecting children from harm and for standing for the truth.
Sign our petition to Rishi Sunak and Gillian Keegan and urge them to protect children, teachers, and parents by making their transgender guidance legally binding.
