The mainstream media is once again trying to stir up controversy to attack pro-life organizations across Canada.

Global News, one of Canada’s largest online media outlets, published two news articles on December 21st and December 22nd reporting that multiple pro-life groups and crisis pregnancy centres have received federal coronavirus wage subsidies. These subsidies are from the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy, which was put in place to ensure that employees of organizations that have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic would not have to be laid off.

The articles mention that the Trudeau government changed the eligibility criteria of the Canada Summer Jobs Program in 2019 to prevent pro-life organizations from receiving federal help to hire students during the summer. Amanda Connolly, the author of this article, makes this connection to suggest that pro-life groups and crisis pregnancy centres should be also denied any federal aid that the government is giving to organizations financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdowns which resulted from it.

The article outline how Global News got into contact with a spokesperson for Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland and inquired about the pro-life groups (as well as organizations like Bank of China and WE Charity) receiving coronavirus wage subsidies. The spokesperson for Chrystia Freeland responded that the government plans to review the program criteria in light of some of the entities accessing the funds.

Global News’ goal is obvious: create a controversy out of nothing, prod the government over this manufactured controversy, and hope that enough abortion supporters are motivated to pressure the government into discriminating against pro-life organizations, as it has done in the past. And because Chrystia Freeland and many other powerful people in the Trudeau government are radically pro-abortion, there is a chance that this plan could be successful.

Pro-life Canadians need to be one step ahead of those who wish to silence the pro-life movement and let the government know that changing the criteria to discriminate against organizations that do not support abortion goes against the will of Canadians.

Sign the petition telling Chrystia Freeland not to let an organization's stance on abortion determine whether or not they receive wage subsidies during the coronavirus pandemic.

Don't Discriminate Against Pro-Life Groups During COVID-19

Petition to: Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland

I am writing to you to say that I am opposed to any changes being made to the eligibility criteria of the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy that would discriminate against crisis pregnancy centres and pro-life organizations.

A spokesperson for your office told Global News in an article from December 21st that “the government plans to review the program criteria in light of some of the entities accessing the funds” when told that crisis pregnancy centres and pro-life organizations received federal coronavirus wage subsidies. This would be absolutely unjust, for people working in these jobs are tax-paying Canadians, and there is no reason to believe they have not felt the same financial hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic that countless other Canadians have.

The Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy must not discriminate against any moral viewpoint. I ask that you correct the record and ensure Canadians that the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy will be available for all Canadian organizations that have been severely impacted by COVID-19, regardless of the beliefs they espouse.
