Petition to: OAS
The OAS must act to ensure democracy in Venezuela
The OAS must act to ensure democracy in Venezuela
The international community must urgently mobilize to ensure that the human rights abuses in Venezuela do not continue.
On Monday, May 15th, the European Union released a statement urging Venezuela to respect the human rights of its constituents. They also asked for the release of political prisoners and for democratic elections to take place as soon as possible.
Now, we must act to ensure that the Organization of American States (OAS) enforces the Democratic Charter.
Luis Almagro, the General Secretary of the OAS, made a statement on Tuesday, May 16th, asking for the anticipated elections to allow Venezuela to recover their democratic spirit.
For weeks, Venezuelans have been peacefully protesting against the repressive and undemocratic regime. The right of these citizens must be protected according to the Democratic Charter of the OAS.
Please join this petition to ask the OAS to enforce the Democratic Charter on Venezuela. The time to act is now!
The situation in Venezuela is unsustainable and urgent. In April alone, 29 victims were killed by the repressive regime.
We are deeply concerned by the loss of life and the human rights abuses in Venezuela, and we know that you are too.
Please share your concern with the OAS by signing this petition.
