KENYA: Defend Life and Family at the UN in Geneva
Every other time, a country is reviewed at the United Nations in Geneva in a process termed as the Universal Periodic Review. The review involves issues that are affecting the country that is in question after which recommendations are made and adopted by the country. Through the Universal Periodic Review, the Human Rights Council will review, on a periodic basis, the fulfilment by each of the 193 United Nations Member States of their human rights obligations and commitments.
The turn for Kenya to be reviewed will be on 23rd of January 2020. Before this review, a pre-session was held late last year (2019) where stakeholders presented their recommendations for Kenya. Many stakeholders presented their recommendations including Faith Based Groups .
On 5th of November though, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) published a report compiled from all stakeholders in Kenya. Prominent in the report is the recommendations by the Kenya National Human Rights Commission pushing for legal homosexuality and abortion.
Recommendations by the Faith Based Groups seem to have been ignored or not given the priority. Kenya's culture, values, laws and policies are pro-life and pro-family and it is unfortunate that attacks on the family institution are likely to be launched through the United Nations frame work during the upcoming UPR.
We are writing this petition asking the Attorney General of Kenya to reject any recommendations that are inconsistent with Kenyan law and to urge the Kenyan Mission in Geneva to stand firm against the push for abortion and homosexuality.
Please sign this urgent petition to avert the attack on the family in Kenya at the United Nations .
