The South African government has proposed legislation called the "General Intelligence Laws Amendment Bill 2023" (GILAB). This bill grants sweeping powers to the State Security Agency (SSA) to probe and scrutinize individuals and institutions in the name of "national security."
GILAB appears to echo oppressive strategies from the Chinese Communist Party. It may allow the SSA to interfere with non-governmental organizations and faith-based institutions, like churches.

Dear speaker of South African parliament,
I hereby write to express my disgust against the GILAB 2023 which proposes to regulate churches on the country.
The GILAB 2023 recommends that churches register with the SSA. This is a blatant attack on religious freedom.
This is more than just a sneaky power grab. It's a direct threat to our religious freedom and the right to worship without government interference.
I demand that you withdraw the demands that the church must report to the SSA with immediate effect.
