Prezydent Bill Clinton podczas wiecu wyborczego swojej żony powiedział, że „Polska i Węgry - te dwa kraje, które nie byłyby wolne, gdyby nie Stany Zjednoczone i długa zimna wojna - teraz zdecydowały, że demokracja to dla nich zbyt wielki problem i wolą przywództwo na wzór putinowski. Dajcie nam autorytarnego dyktatora i trzymajcie z daleka obcokrajowców. Brzmi to znajomo?”
Jak widać były prezydent Stanów Zjednoczonych wypowiadając te słowa obraził Polaków. Dlaczego tak powiedział trudno dociec, lecz wydaje się, ze Prezydent Clinton czerpie swą wiedzę z przekazu medialnego pochodzącego z polskiego mainstreamu. W naszym liście, który można poprzeć podpisując się pod nim zwracamy uwagę Prezydenta Clintona, na to, że po pierwsze wypowiadając te słowa pokazał, ze nie zna historii walki Polaków o wolność, po drugie, że znieważa swoimi słowami Polaków a po trzecie - że Stany Zjednoczone oprócz niewątpliwych zasług w poparciu walki Polaków o wolność przyczyniły się także do utraty wolności przez Polskę, gdy Roosevelt w Jałcie oddał Polskę Stalinowi lub unikał zaangażowania w wyjaśnienie masakry katyńskiej.
Do listu wysłanym w oryginale do Billa Clintona wysyłamy także informację o rzeczywistej sytuacji w Polsce, informacje, których musiałby na próżno szukać w mainstreamowych mediach.

Szanowny Panie Prezydencie,
Jak donoszą agencje prasowe, podczas przemówienia na wiecu wyborczym w New Jersey powiedział Pan, że „Polska i Węgry - te dwa kraje, które nie byłyby wolne, gdyby nie Stany Zjednoczone i długa zimna wojna - teraz zdecydowały, że demokracja to dla nich zbyt wielki problem i wolą przywództwo na wzór putinowski. Dajcie nam autorytarnego dyktatora i trzymajcie z daleka obcokrajowców. Brzmi znajomo?”
Ze względu na nasze zadania statutowe zmuszeni jesteśmy zwrócić uwagę, że słowa te wskazują, że jest Pan niedoinformowany w kliku zasadniczych kwestiach:
- nie zna Pan rzeczywistej sytuacji w Polsce, skoro mówi Pan o putinowskiej formie rządów w naszym kraju
- nie zna Pan historii walki o wolność jaką prowadził naród polski
- nie wie Pan jaka była rola Pańskiego poprzednika i jego współpracowników w pozbawieniu Polski wolności przez Stalina i sowiecką Rosję
Musi Pan wiedzieć, że ostry konflikt polityczny w Polsce jaki rozpoczął się w zeszłym roku wokół Trybunału Konstytucyjnego jest bardzo podobny do tego, który obecnie rozgrywa się w Stanach Zjednoczonych, po śmierci jednego z sędziów Sądu Najwyższego. Czy w tej sytuacji też uważa Pan, że Prezydent Obama jest dyktatorem na wzór Putina?
Polscy antykomunistyczni konspiratorzy w mrocznych czasach komunizmu w latach 80 składali taką przysięgę:
„Wobec Boga i Ojczyzny przysięgam walczyć o wolną i niepodległą Rzeczpospolitą Solidarną, poświęcać swe siły, czas – a jeśli zajdzie potrzeba – swe życie dla zbudowania takiej Polski. Przysięgam walczyć o solidarność między ludźmi i narodami. Przysięgam rozwijać idee naszego Ruchu nie zdradzić go i sumiennie spełniać powierzone mi w nim zadania”
Musi pan wiedzieć, że twórca organizacji, której członkowie tę przysięgę składali zasiada w polskim Sejmie, jest Marszałkiem Seniorem i wspiera obecny polski rząd, a jego syn jest wicepremierem tego rządu. Obaj narażali życie w walce z komunistami. Obywatele popierający dziś rząd polski w latach 80 walczyli z komunistami na ulicach. O jakiej dyktaturze w Polsce zatem pan mówi? Pańskie słowa są po prostu zniewagą w stosunku do ludzi, którzy walczyli o wolność Polski.
To co w tej chwili dzieje się w Polsce wynika z faktu, że ludzie, którzy przez ostatnie 27 lat z małymi przerwami sprawowali władzę nie chcą uznać wyniku demokratycznych wyborów w Polsce i wszelkimi sposobami chcą zdyskredytować nowy polski rząd, niestety docierając z fałszywymi informacjami także do Pana. A robią to, ponieważ są w dużej mierze spadkobiercami komunistycznego systemu władzy, który po 1989 roku nie został w pełni przezwyciężony.
Powiedział Pan, że Polska nie byłaby wolna, gdyby nie Stany Zjednoczone.
Polacy oczywiście są wdzięczni Stanom Zjednoczonym za poparcie ich walki i walki Solidarności o wolność nie tylko Polski ale i innych, okupowanych przez sowiety, narodów. Jednakże użyte przez Pana sformułowanie, że „Polska nie byłaby wolna gdyby nie Stany Zjednoczone” może być uznane przez Polaków za prawdziwe jedynie wtedy gdy się uzna, że do wolności Polski Stany Zjednoczone przyczyniły się poprzez bezkompromisowy antykomunizm Prezydenta Ronalda Reagana (któremu pomnik Polacy wystawili w centrum stolicy, naprzeciw ambasady USA). Aby komunizm mógł być pokonany potrzebna była ofiara krwi polskich robotników przelanej na ulicach polskich miast. I niezbędny był wysiłek wywiadowczy polskiego oficera, który zaproponował USA współpracę przy pokonaniu rosyjskiego komunizmu – to pułkownik Ryszard Kukliński, dzięki przekazanym informacjom przyczynił się jak nikt inny do zmiany amerykańskiej doktryny wojskowej, co pozwoliło na amerykańskie zwycięstwo w zimnej wojnie.
Lecz o ile nam wiadomo, to w walce o wolność Polski podczas Zimnej Wojny nie została przelana ani jedna kropla amerykańskiej krwi.
Wspomniał Pan o roli Stanów Zjednoczonych w odzyskaniu przez Polskę wolności. Lecz musi Pan też dowiedzieć się o roli Stanów Zjednoczonych w konferencji jałtańskiej i będącej m.in jej efektem utracie przez Polskę wolności po II WŚ. To pański poprzednik na urzędzie, Franklin Delano Roosevelt w swojej naiwności, otoczony przez prosowieckich doradców zgodził się na zagarnięcie przez Stalina (pieszczotliwie nazywanego "Wujkiem Joe") połowy Europy, w tym Polski. A za tym szły wywózki na Syberię, niekończące się prześladowania, eksterminacja polskiej elity, nędza i zacofanie, z którego Polska podnosi się do dziś.
I wreszcie – to Roosevelt nie uwierzył emisariuszowi polskiego rządu Janowi Karskiemu, gdy ten relacjonował prawdę o niemieckich zbrodniach w Polsce i wołał o ratunek dla Żydów. W konsekwencji Stany Zjednoczone nie wywarły dostatecznej presji na niemiecki reżim pod koniec II WŚ aby przerwać horror Holokaustu, mimo, że Roosevelt był poinformowany o tym co się dzieje. Kolejnym przykładem na to, że "ta cała Polska to zbyt wielki problem" dla USA było zaprzeczanie w imię przyjaźni z sowiecką Rosją przez tzw. "różową administrację" Roosevelta dowodom na to, że Sowieci dokonali katyńskiej masakry, w której zginęło ponad 20 tys. polskich oficerów i przedstawicieli inteligencji. Niepodważalne dowody na sowieckie sprawstwo były konsekwentnie ignorowane i zamiatane pod dywan, by tylko nie denerwować "Wujka Joe". "Brzmi znajomo"?
Panie Prezydencie Clinton,
Pańska nierozważna wypowiedź podczas wiecu wyborczego uderzyła w dotychczas dobre stosunki naszych narodów. Niech Pan i pańskie otoczenie nie ulega fałszywej propagandzie wrogów wolności, którzy podają się za obrońców demokracji. Człowiek o Pańskiej pozycji i doświadczeniu powinien rozważniej dobierać informatorów, dywersyfikować źródła wiadomości i, przede wszystkim, nie wyciągać pochopnych wniosków.
Panie Prezydencie, powinien przeprosić Polaków za swoje niesprawiedliwe i krzywdzące słowa.
I niech Pan pamięta, że Amerykanów polskiego pochodzenia jest w USA dostatecznie dużo, aby zaważyć na wyniku wyborów prezydenckich.

I support a letter of Polish League Against Defamation to President Bill Clinton
"Mr. President,
As the international press agencies quote, during the New Jersey rally in support of your wife's presidential campaign you made highly harmful remarks:
"Poland and Hungary - two countries that would not be free but for the United States and the long, cold war, have now decided that this democracy is too much trouble; they want Putin-like dictatorship. Just get me an authoritarian dictatorship and keep the foreigners out. Sounds familiar?"
In accordance with our statutory goals we feel obliged to inform you, Sir, that you may have deliberately been misled and thus misrepresented facts in the following contexts:
- by comparing Polish rule to the "Putin-like dictatorship" You clearly show a blatant lack of knowledge on the actual situation in Poland;
- You are obviously not familiar with the abc's of the legendary Polish resistance and freedom-fight movements;
- You may also not remember the ambigious role that Your predecessor (FDR) and his advisors played in subduing Poland under the Stalin's Russia tyrrany;
You have to acknowledge the acute political conflict in Poland that arose around the Constitutional Tribunal last year bears much likeness to the legal aftermath of U.S. Supreme Court Justice's death. Accordingly, would you call President Obama - a "Putin-like dictator"? We do not think so either.
In the sombre times of communist rule the Polish freedom fighters would take the following oath:
"Before God and the Motherland I swear to fight for the free and independent Republic of Solidarity, consecrate strenght, time - and if necessary - my life in order to build such Poland. I swear to fight for solidarity among the people and nations. I swear to nourish and develop the ideals of the Movement which I shall never betray and scrupulously fulfill all assignments I am entrusted with".
What you need to concede, Sir, is the fact that the creator of the organization that had its members make this oath is not only an MP of the present Parliment but also was unanimously appointed a senior house speaker. It is worth noting that he heartily supports the present government in which his son serves as a deputy prime minister. In the 80's citizens who voted for the change we are happy to experience would fight against communists on the streets. With that being said, let us ask what dictatorship you are reffreing to, Sir? Your unfortunate statement is nothing but an insult towards the very people that died for Poland's freedom.
We would strongly like to clarify that Poland's present situation derives from the sad fact that the people who have ruled, with short intervals, for the last 27 years do not respect the result of recent democratic elections and will clutch at straws to undermine and discredit the new government, also, obviously by manipulating you, Sir. People that do it are mostly inheritors of the "red" state of mind and the communist rule which has not been fully uprooted after 1989.
The Polish people are of course grateful to the U.S. for support of Solidarity and freedom-fight movement not only in Poland but also in other Soviet-oppressed countries. However, the quote "Poland would not be free, but for the U.S." may be true only if we consider the Ronald Reagan's unswerving anticommunist stand to have been crucial in the process (in commemoration of late RR, the Polish erected a monument in the centre of Warsaw, vis-a-vis the U.S. Embassy).
Yet it has to be re-emphasized that in order to defeat communism a large scale civil resistance including the acts of shedding blood on Polish streets by brave workers was indispensable. So was the unprecedented intelligence effort made by a Polish Army officer - colonel Ryszard Kukliński - who teamed up with U.S. intelligence to overcome communists' regime by providing Warsaw Treaty top secret materials that not only had significantly influenced the change of American military doctrine but ultimately led to the victory in the Cold War that you also referred to in your speech at the rally.
In addition, as far as we are concerned not a single drop of blood had been shed by Americans in the fight for Polish freedom during the Cold War.
You did mention the United States' role in freeing Poland. Thus it is necessary for You to learn about the United States' role at Yalta conference and freeing Poland... under Stalin's devastating rule after WW2. It was your predecessor, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who was naive enough to follow his pro-soviet advisors' say allowing Stalin ("Uncle Joe" as FDR would tenderly call him) to annex half of Europe, including Poland. Needless to remind what ensued, namely, forced resettlements to Siberia, endless prejudice and annihilation of Polish elites, extreme poverty and civilization-stall that the Polish nation is still reeling from.
And last but not least, wasn't it Roosevelt that did not give credence to Mr. Jan Karski - the Polish government's emissary reporting on the German atrocities in occupied Poland and calling for Jews' salvation. In consequence, during and towards the end of WW2 U.S. did not sufficiently pressure Nazi regime to end the horrors of the Holocaust. Another example of "this Poland being too much trouble" is the so-called FDR's "pink administration" denial-agenda on real whistle-blowers and perpetrators of the Katyn massacre that resulted in executing above 20,000 Polish officers and members of intelligentsia. Irrefutable proofs for Soviets' involvement were being ignored and swept under the rug not to annoy "Uncle Joe". "Sounds familiar?"
Mr. President,
Your insouciant statement saddened us, all the more so, it may indeed jeopardize banner relations that have long flourished between our countries. We strongly appeal that you and your advisors not fall ignorant to the false propaganda orchestrated by enemies of freedom in disguise of democracy defenders. A politician of your renown and vast experience should choose more reliable sources of info, at least diversify them and, most importantly, not jump to conclusions.
Mr. President, with all due respect, You should definitely make an apology to the Polish Nation for your unjust and harmful words.
Additionally, please bear in mind that there are enough Americans of Polish descent to tip the balance in the upcoming U.S. presidential elections.
