Stop Euthanasia From Expanding This Year!
End 2024 Expansion: Euthanasia is not Mental Health & Drug Addiction Care!
End 2024 Expansion: Euthanasia is not Mental Health & Drug Addiction Care!
While 2024 has just begun, the looming euthanasia expansion for the mentally ill and drug-addicted is set to arrive in a few short months.
Here’s a quick recap of what has happened so far:
Just over two years ago, the Trudeau Liberal Government decided that people suffering from mental illness weren't eligible for Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD).
They said, "Let's take two years to study this. We need safeguards, we need protocols."
Last year in May, they tabled the report from their Expert Panel on MAiD and Mental Illness.
Due to increasing public backlash against this expansion, they were forced to delay the decision stating they needed more “time” to “study” the expansion.
So, they extended the exclusion of eligibility for another year. And that year is almost up!
The expansion is set for March 17.
From March 17 onwards, Canadians suffering from mental illnesses, battling addiction, or otherwise deemed “too burdensome” by the Canadian government will be eligible to apply and die via MAiD.
Veterans, people with diabetes, and individuals with eating disorders - are all being offered MAiD rather than the support they need.
One such example occurred back in 2022, when Paralympic army veteran, corporal Christine Gauthier, requested help with getting a wheelchair lift installed in her home but was instead offered euthanasia as a solution to her mobility challenges.
Another example was reported in December about a British Columbia (BC) woman, Allison Ducluzeau, who was diagnosed with abdominal cancer. She managed to find treatment in the United States, but when she went to the BC Cancer Agency for help to pay her medical bills, they refused because “the services [she] chose to receive in the U.S. would not have been the recommended treatment for [her] cancer diagnosis.”
Euthanasia is portrayed as one’s “choice” to “die with dignity”, while the truth is the government has given itself the legal justification to murder “unwanted” individuals.
Our elected politicians believe it is better to KILL our most vulnerable than to solve the issues of mental health and drug addiction.
Euthanasia accounts for an alarming 4.1% of all deaths in Canada in 2022. This is a staggering increase of 31.2% from the previous year. With 2023 gone and done, these numbers will rise again.
Euthanasia isn't a solution, it's politicians justifying eugenics!
Our most vulnerable citizens are being offered death instead of care.
And now, the government wants to extend this to individuals with mental illnesses and addiction issues.
Even those within the medical profession are horrified by this. Health Minister, Mark Holland, and Justice Minister, Arif Virani, received letters from seven of 17 chairs of psychiatry, urging them to hold off on expanding MAiD for mental illness.
These letters highlighted the lack of a clear definition for ‘irremediability’ and the lack of value of life for these vulnerable groups.
When we raised our voices last year, we managed to get the expansion delayed.
We can do it again and mount the pressure needed to defeat this euthanasia expansion once and for all.
If we do nothing, Canada will be one step closer to being fully formed into a pro-death dystopian where people are valued for their utility, not their humanity, and where doctors are not encouraged to heal their patients but rather offer death first before suggesting health care.
Let’s band together and send a clear message to our elected officials that Canadians want life-affirming health care, NOT doctor-prescribed death!
Demand Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Leader of the Opposition Pierre Poilievre, NDP Leader Jagmet Singh, and Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet to stop the expansion of euthanasia to the mentally ill and drug addicted.
