Nike, one of the world’s most prominent sportswear brands, is known for sponsoring athletes and influencers who embody their brand values. They have chosen to partner with Dylan Mulvaney, a transgender influencer known for his offensive caricatures of womanhood.
Dylan Mulvaney is a social media influencer who has gained popularity and an enormous by documenting his ‘transition into womanhood’. Mulvaney’s journey consists of him posting a series of cringe-worthy videos in which he presents a cringeworthy parody of femininity, such as going hiking in high heels. In one video, Mulvaney confesses to wearing tight-fitting women’s shorts in a supermarket, exposing his penis with the intention of normalising the idea that ‘women have bulges'"
Despite being painfully thin and having no female anatomy, Nike has thought this man a suitable candidate to advertise their sportswear and has paid him to advertise one of their bras, even though he has nothing to fill it.
In a video sponsored by Nike, Mulvaney performs a series of high kicks and star jumps, with his mouth hanging open, in an attempt to look cute. He resembles exactly what he is, a camp man attempting to impersonate a woman.
This is a gross insult to Nike’s female customers. Nike is sending a message that being a woman consists of nothing more than appearing ditsy and cute and undermining female athletes' professionalism, effort and achievements. In platforming a man who is not a professional athlete and who does not possess breasts, Nike is showing how out of touch they are with the needs of their female customers.
As a brand popular with young people, Nike’s promotion of gender ideology via its choice of Dylan Mulvaney as an ambassador is deeply irresponsible.
Sign the petition telling Nike to ditch their sponsorship of Mulvaney and force him to remove his videos promoting their brand or face a boycott. What is more important to them? Woke values or millions of loyal customers?
