There is something rotten in Stratford, Ontario!

The beloved Stratford Festival has become a ploy in a radical revision of Shakespeare's timeless play, "Much Ado About Nothing."

Erin Shields, known for her feminist stance in adapting literary classic plays, has audaciously introduced modern feminist perspectives into this classic masterpiece.

Shields' take on "Much Ado About Nothing" is more a disservice than an homage to the Bard.

She brings a new prologue and epilogue to subvert the British Bard's original dynamics by adding modern feminist theories to the characters Hero and Beatrice.

It is disheartening to see the Stratford Festival, known for its excellence in classical theatre, pushing radical feminism down its audience's throats.

The audience expects to experience Shakespeare's literary classics.

Instead, this is a blatant bait-and-switch where a radical feminist instead gets to lecture them about "the nature of a woman's situation in a patriarchal world, along with [the]... inability to really know the lives of others or even fully understand" oneself.

Radicals should not use Shakespeare's work to advance personal ideologies.

It's a treasured narrative that reflects on and demonstrates the human condition that needs to be shown the proper respect it deserves.

We must act now to preserve the true essence of "Much Ado About Nothing" before Shakespeare's actual meaning and themes will fade into oblivion.

Remove Erin Shields' Additional Texts from "Much Ado About Nothing"

Dear Antoni Cimolino and Anita Gaffney,

I am disturbed that the Stratford Festival decided to feature Erin Shields' highly subjective interpretation of Shakespeare's timeless masterpiece, "Much Ado About Nothing."

Shields' added text and decidedly feminist perspective seek to subvert from the quintessential essence, the underlying message, and the cultural resonance of Shakespeare's genius in what many consider one of the greatest comedies found within the literary world and the performance arts.

The revered Bard's exemplary portrayal of character dynamics declares his remarkable intelligence, astute wisdom, and profound grasp of human nature that still rings true today.

Allowing Shields' prejudiced ideology to seep into and distort the orthodox forms and themes of the play is tantamount to stripping the essence away from Shakespeare's original vision, eventually disallowing audience members like myself to relish his play in its authentic form and meaning.

Let the audiences fully engage with and savor unfiltered Shakespeare's exploration of love, romance, and the intricacy of the human condition without fueling a radical's need to interject her contemporary and biased political intentions.

Please reverse the decision to stage Erin Shields' additional ideological texts to “Much Ado About Nothing” at Stratford Festival.
